Josué Rojas in this year's EMERGING LATINO ARTISTS 2015 Exhibition
"... The work of Josue Rojas confronts the viewer with dizzying compositions loaded with pop-culture imagery, artistic references, cultural allusions, and poetic verse to create a dreamlike narrative that requires almost literary inspection to comprehend."
I am happy to say that my piece, "La Palabra y La Imagen: Heroes Gemelos / The Word and the Image: Hero Twins" (2015 acrylic, watercolor, graphite & ink on canvas) is a part of the exhibition this year. The piece has been installed in the style indicative of the body it came from (Joy of Exile: In Three Acts) produced earlier this year. Though, with new editions - hot pink rather than neutral grey, the use of true (rather than and an expansion of narrative elements with the mural installation.
La Palabra y La Imagen: Heroes Gemelos /The Word and the Image: Hero Twins is a celebration of the sisterhood between words and images. In the Mayan creation story, the Popol Vuh, two twin brothers die and resurrect and vanquish evil through cunning and sportsmanship. The two brothers are also artists; one is a poet, the other a painter. I depict them as part of an kinetic eruption of energy.
